Jim Long was telling us the water level is low if there is any interest in a native fish collecting field trip. We could schedule something for Saturday July 13 or Sunday July 14. Jim was telling me we could use the seine net, if we get several people that want to give it a try. If you have another date in mind, let us know. Thanks

Thanks to everyone who joined us on our field trip yesterday! We had a great time photographing darters, catfish, sunfish, minnows, snails and many more. Jim Long was great at identifying the native fish we caught.
I am so bummed I can't go! If at all possible, I'd be able to go on Sunday. The weather may be better as well? But I can't make the rain date of the 20th either. :(
I am interested but can't this month. I've been planning to come down to collect some mountain red belly dace. However, I live out of state and am not available until August or September.
I am available for Saturday July 13
I think we should work for Saturday July 13, but if there is more interest in the sunday july 14th I can make that work.. I have a Large Seine net, and will make sure to get a smaller one so we have two on hand.
If you are thinking of going on this field trip, please Send a reply to this thread, Once we see how many people are interested, we can plan for carpooling folks.
I do want to mention this though:
If you do not have a tank on hand to keep natives, you can still come along, learn native fish husbandry, learn about some of our native virginia local fauna, and have a great time helping out and, well just have a great time with club friends and in a great atmosphere.
Don't forget- you will need a Va. fishing License to actually partake in the process, and I will ask Jim to put a list of items you may want to bring along.
This is a great opportunity, for us to learn about local species, and maybe find some very neat things to possibly take home and put in their aquariums.... There is definately a possibility to find some local plants as well..
Don't worry if you do not have a net(s) as we have plenty amongst the club members already....
