                                                                                           About Us

The James River Aquarium Society (JRAS) is a not-for-profit educational and social organization for freshwater and tropical fish enthusiasts in central Virginia.  JRAS was created in 2011 to give aquarists, with a wide range of interests, backgrounds and skill levels, opportunities to meet, learn and share their experiences.

Visit our Calendar or our forum to learn of meeting details, and our Join Us page to consider becoming a member.

Each fall we host an annual all day auction.  Hobbyists from across Virginia, and nearby states sell and buy hundreds of items - fish, tanks, plants and aquatic supplies.  Many items are graciously donated by our generous sponsors. It is a great opportunity to get into the hobby and find a deal on that item you have been searching for or find that rare fish you have never seen.

JRAS meetings are held monthly, typically every fourth Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at Logo Advantage, 8007A Mechanicsville Turnpike, Mechanicsville, Va.  All are welcome to attend.  Most meetings feature a guest speaker, open discussion, and an auction for equipment, fish, and plants. Refreshments are provided.
